Two friends and I each picked up this cigar last night and smoked them after dinner, so that we could taste compare and try something new, both at the same time. The cigar was advertised to have tastes of Cedar and Coffee.
My cigar started very dry. It burned incredibly even and had plenty of smoke, but the taste didn’t start all that great. However, about 10% into it, it developed a slight coffee flavor and the dryness dissipated. The dryness did not return and the hits of coffee came-and-went during the entire course of the cigar. The burn remained even, and ash very white, and I never had to re-light it at all.
The quality of this smoke was quite good, but I didn’t care for the taste all that much, and I didn’t like the dryness at all. A good smoke experience, but not one that I would look for again in the store.

I haven’t written a post about these before, but I know I have smoked some. This cigar started with quite a punch in spice, but quickly mellowed into a nice woodsy, earthy smoke. The flavor resembled that of Oak. There was plenty of smoke and a great draw.
I smoked the first 1/3 of this stick one night and let it go out, then picked it up the next day. After a very short dry spell, it returned to the earthen woodsy flavor from the previous day. I would like to smoke another one of these, but it won’t make my top 10 list.

I bought this one just the other day at the Grapevine Cigar shop just because I was in the area. I lit it up and smoked half of it right away. It was quite good, tasteful with a flavor that I really didn’t recognize, plenty of smoke and a good draw.
I picked up the cigar 2 days later, last night, re-lit and smoked the rest of it. The flavor was still 100% present, plenty of smoke, good draw and not dry at all.
This was a really good smoke, good quality, good wrapper and good taste. I want to get another one and see if I can distinguish a flavor this time.

I’ve been wanting to try these smokes for a while now, and I am glad that I finally ordered some. I got them from www.joecigar.com
The cigar started strong with a lot of smoke. It stayed strong all the way to the end, giving good tastes of wood and perhaps some nutty flavor that I couldn’t place. The draw was near perfect. The only thing that disappointed me was that it kept going out. I had to re-light it literally about 10 times during the course of the smoke. I was waiting only 1-3 minutes in between puffs, so it should have stayed lit much better, in my opinion. It could be the fact that I smoked the cigar right when I received it in the mail and if it had been kept in a very moist place, it could have been too humid. So the other 2 sticks I got, I am going to leave in the humidor for a couple of weeks before trying to smoke them again.

A friend gave me this stick and said that he had smoked one already and couldn’t taste the espresso, but he admitted that he had smoked it right after smoking another vitola, so he didn’t think that he got a good, accurate taste of this cigar.
I lit this one up and could immediately taste espresso and coffee. The flavor was very distinguishable, but not overly strong or overbearing. There was plenty of smoke and th draw was quite nice. The cigar kept going out, however, and I did have to re-light it several times before the end. About the last 1.5″ or so, the smoke started getting hot so I just put it down and gave it up. The flavor before that was quite good and I would smoke another one of these (especially if it is free
) but I didn’t think that it was a “quality” smoke. I’ve had better quality, although the flavor is what makes this one good.

This was our cigar for the February Herfers.com Herf. It was a very good smoke. The cigar was light and I tasted hints of vanilla cream, a slight woody taste that I couldn’t really recognize, and towards the end I was tasting a touch of pepper. The vanilla cream taste lasted through the entire cigar and it never got hot at the end. There was plenty of smoke, it burned evenly and I never had to re-light it.
I got 5 sticks for the herfers.com exchange, and I look forward to smoking the other 4 of these.

The Gurkha Double Maduro was a Toro-sized vitola that measured 6.0×52. The stick features a Costa Rican double-maduro leaf that’s dark and oily and soft to the touch. The smoke started rich and full and finished that was all the way to the nub. It had plenty of smoke and a taste of leather and a spice that I believe was nutmeg.
A friend of mine smoked one of these at our weekly poker game and he said that the draw was tough and the taste was bland, but I didn’t find this to be true at all. I am thinking that he probably got a bad stick that wasn’t stored properly.
I’d be happy to smoke one of these again, it was a good smoke.

The Gran Robusto, a 5.5×52 stick, has a Brazilian wrapper, a Corojo binder and a combo of Nicaraguan, Peruvian and Dominican fillers. These cigars have been aged since 1991.
The main thing I tasted in this smoke was leather. It was a good smoke, good draw and plenty of smoke. I didn’t taste anything besides the leather, perhaps because I am not as experienced, but that was it. I did like the cigar and I smoked the entire thing, never getting hot all the way to the nub. Good smoke.
